Preparation

Prepare the room/space so that it is as spacious as it can be, without obstacles.

Step by step description

1. Ask the participants to stand and create a circle.

2. Tell participants that they are bees, and they can start moving all over the place, moving their hands as wings and make “bzz, bzz, bzz” sound.

3. After a while, say “STOP.” and the Bees stop. Point out to one of the bees and say “This Bee has something to say!”

4. Everyone should focus on the selected bee.

5. The chosen bee says something but she may only use the “Bzz, bzz, bzz” sound.

6. The bee who is speaking in a bzz language should try its best to capture the right intonation of what he really wants to say.

7. The activity lasts until each bee has had the chance to say something in a bzz language.

Closing up

The exercise can be concluded by the quick circle of participants answering the question:

● Was it hard for you to speak bzz language?
● Did you discover anything new?
● How did you like the activity?

Comments / hints for facilitators

Using bzz as a language is similar to gibberish, a language which is often used in comedy/improv theatre and can provoke the audience to laugh or try to interpret the actual meaning of otherwise nonsense words.
