Preparation

Prepare the room/space so that it is as spacious as it can be, without obstacles.

Step by step description

1. Divide the participants into smaller groups of 4-5 people. It’s good to have participants of different ages in each group.

2. Ask them to share a dream or aspiration related to their teenage years. Give participants about 15 minutes of discussion time.

3. Once all the dreams have been shared, instruct the group members to create a moving statue of the dreams, but ensuring that no one acts out their own dream.

4. A Moving Statue is a method where participants initially stand in a line. Then, one by one, they take a step forward and form a movement using their body along with a sound/word/words. The movement and sound continue until each member of the small group has become a part of the “statue.” The statue should bring some sort of synthesis or perspective from the preceding discussion.

Closing up

You can ask from other groups :

● What did you see in that moving statue?
● How does it appear to represent teenage years?
● What recognizable features were there?

When all the small groups have constructed and presented their own statues, you can ask:

● What kind of similarities and differences related to youth can you see?
● Is a person the same regardless of the surrounding era, or has adolescence changed in some way over the past decades?
