Duration
Material needed
Preparation
Prepare the room/space so that it is as spacious as it can be, without obstacles.
Step by step description
1. Invite participants to make a circle
2. Ask participants to concentrate and think about how they feel right now. Invite them to close their eyes if they want to help focus.
3. At the count of 3 (1,2,3) ask them to express how they feel right now, but only with their body, as if they were in a museum.
4. Ask participants to remain in their statues and in the place and observe each other.
5. Choose one statue, ask the rest of participants to abandon just for a while their own, get closer and observe this one statue. Ask them to reflect out loud what they think it represents, what feelings and emotions it suggests and what would be a good name/title for this statue. In the meantime, ask the statue itself to remain silent and in the same position.
6. Do so for several statues walking around the place and asking participants to share their interpretations.
The activity can go on longer depending on the number of statues you choose to discuss in more detail.
Once you decide to end the exercise, ask participants to shake their body in order to “remove” the statues and abandon the position.
Closing up
You can reflect jointly with the group on this exercise asking the following questions:
● How was it – easy or difficult?
● What was easy/difficult?
● Did you learn anything new about yourself/others?
